Introduction

This document provides instructions for configuring VersaMail and the Exchange Active Sync (EAS) connection for synchronization with ISC's Zimbra server for email, calendaring and contacts. If required, and you have not already installed the EAS update to your device, please do so before proceeding any further. The EAS update can be found on Palm's Exchange ActiveSync Update page.

NOTES:

  • Please read through all instructions below BEFORE proceeding. Failure to do so may result in an inability to sync with Zimbra at best, and data loss at worst.
  • VersaMail does not allow synchronization of folders beyond the Inbox, Outbox, Sent and Trash.
  • These instructions are to be performed on the Palm OS handheld only. They will not work if you try to configure the VersaMail conduit on your computer.

Preparation

In order to ensure the most trouble-free activation possible, the following steps should be followed prior to VersaMail configuration:

  • Ensure that you have a current backup of all of the data on the device. To do this, set the Backup conduit to "Backup" in the Hotsync manager. Also ensure that all of your conduits that can backup data on your handheld are set to Synchronize.
  • Make sure that you are running the latest ROM on your Treo. To check the version number of the latest ROM update, please visit Palm's site.
  • Lastly, you should wipe the handheld. Please be aware that some units do not have VersaMail installed by default. After you wipe the unit, you may need to use the disc that came with the handheld to reinstall VersaMail. Make sure that you have this handy before proceeding further.

NOTE: This will now take over synchronization duties for your Palm OS based device. HotSync conduits will no longer be needed. Disable the conduits on your desktop computer as you run the risk of duplicating data on the Exchange server.

Please bear in mind that this update will replace any desktop synchronization you currently have in place. From now on, synchronization will ONLY happen wirelessly. Cleanup

If you wiped your unit, you may now restore your data from backup. Palm has a good article on restoring your data from backup here.
