WebOS for Zimbra
From Provider Wiki
webOS is compatible with ISC's Zimbra service, and is a fully supported platform. webOS does not yet support AirPennNet.
Connecting webOS to Zimbra
Before connecting any device via ActiveSync, it must be enabled via the Update Account function of Zimbra Account Management. This must be done by the Zimbra admin of the org the user belongs to. This does not need to be done if ActiveSync was enabled for a previous device.
webOS 1.2 - 2.x
- Make sure the phone has a full signal.
- Select the Email icon. It should be in the Quick Launch bar, or on the leftmost pane of the Launcher.
- Select the Email menu in the upper left and select Manual Setup.
- Under the Mail Type section, select Exchange (EAS).
- In the Email Address field, type the username as username@*******.upenn.edu, where ******* is the subdomain.
- Use the following settings in the Incoming Mail Server section:
- Server Address: https://mailbox.zimbra.upenn.edu
- Domain: leave blank
- Username: username
- Password: User's Zimbra password
- This is not necessarily the same as their PennKey password
- Select Sign In
- The device will begin syncing, and the Preferences & Accounts field will reappear. Flick away that card and allow Zimbra to finish syncing.
- Once the device has finished syncing, launch the Email application. Select the Exchange sub-menu by selecting the triangle. Mark with a star any folders that you wish to appear in your Favorites box. The Favorites inbox will show the selected folders for multiple accounts all on one screen.
- If the device does not already have a PIN enabled, apply one by opening the Launcher, going to the Screen & Lock applet (usually to the furthest-right screen of the launcher), scrolling down to the Secure Unlock, and enabling a PIN.
webOS 3.x
Please note that webOS 3.0 is currently in its first revision and Exchange ActiveSync connectivity is somewhat unstable. Setup may require multiple attempts and encounter erratic behavior such as accounts disappearing or mail sync not completely properly. Those who plan on using the TouchPad as a primary device may want to wait until a future major update introduces a more stable EAS environment.
- Make sure the device has a full signal.
- Launch the Email app. It will likely be in the Quick Launch bar, or in the Applications tab of the Launcher.
- Select the Email button to the top left of the interface and tap Preferences & Accounts button
- Tap Add Account, then select Microsoft Exchange
- Select Manual Setup and use the following settings in the Incoming Mail Server section:
- Server Address: https://mailbox.zimbra.upenn.edu
- Domain: leave blank
- Username: username
- Password: User's Zimbra password
- This is probably not the same as their PennKey password
- Select Sign In.
- When the device has verified accounts settings, select Create Account.
- The device will begin syncing, and the Preferences & Accounts field will reappear. Flick away that card and allow Zimbra to finish syncing.
- Once the device has finished syncing, launch the Email application. View the account's sub-menu by selecting the triangle next to the account name. Mark with a star any folders that you wish to appear in your Favorites box. The Favorites inbox will show the selected folders for multiple accounts all on one screen. Conversation view is not supported at this time.
