Configuration instructions for the Lightning calendar extension to Thunderbird
Zimbra Password
Zimbra's external calendar access is not integrated with Kerberos or the PennKey password system. In order for Sunbird to work, you must have a separate Zimbra username and password. The username is your Pennkey, but the password needs to be set using the Zimbra account serivces tool.
If you need to set or reset your Zimbra password,
- Go to https://services.zimbra.upenn.edu/accountservices/
- Login with your PennKey and PennKey password
- Click the "Continue" button to edit your account
- Click "Reset Password"
- Enter your new Zimbra password twice (This does not change your PennKey password)
- Click the "Reset Password" button
- Logout of the Account sevices tool
This Zimbra password is used for the calendar login below.
Obtain Lightning
- Go to https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/ and search for the Lightning add-on.
- Right-click the link and choose Save Link As... to download and save the file to your hard disk.
- In Mozilla Thunderbird, open Add-ons from the Tools menu.
- Click the Install button, and locate/select the file you downloaded and click OK.
Configuring Lightning
- Launch Thunderbird
- Select the Calendar icon in the lower-left corner of your main window
- Go to Calendar-->New Calendar
- Select the 'On the Network' radio button and click Continue
- Leave the iCalendar (ICS) button selected and enter the following information in the Location box:
- https://mailbox.zimbra.upenn.edu/home/your username/Calendar
- Authenticate using your Zimbra username and password in the next window.
- In the Create a New Calendar window, name your calendar, and set the options as you wish. Click Continue

Notes
The next time that you launch Thunderbird, you may be prompted for two sets of credentials to log on. The first one is for the Lightning calendar add-on, and the second is for authenticating against the Zimbra server.
