Zimbra using Thunderbird

Introduction

This page shows how to configure Thunderbird to access ISC's Zimbra server.

Configuration

Thunderbird Email

The following instructions will allow you to send and receive SSL encrypted IMAP email using the Zimbra server. These instructions assume that you have previously configured Thunderbird to access an email server:

  1. Launch Thunderbird
  2. Go to Tools-->Account Settings
  3. Click 'Add Account'
  4. Select 'Email Account'
  5. 'Identity'
    • Your Name: Enter your actual name
    • Email Address: username@yourmailservername.upenn.edu
      • Your mail server name can be @pobox.upenn.edu, @mail.med.upenn.edu, @sp2.upenn.edu, etc.
  6. 'Server Information'
    • Select 'IMAP'
    • Incoming Server: mailbox.zimbra.upenn.edu
    • Outgoing Server (if applicable): zimbra.upenn.edu
  7. Select 'OK' until you are out of the configuration window.

You will now need to go back to Tools-->Account Settings to set up SSL security

  1. Select 'Server Settings', and click the 'SSL' radio button
  2. Make sure that the Use Secure Authentication is set to TLS.
  3. Click 'OK'
